A Better Ledger: Search & Filter Transactions

November 14, 2024 ᐧ 5 minutes ᐧ By Morgan

Before Spend, if I needed to look up a transaction and didn’t remember which card I used, I had to sign in to multiple banks to find the transaction. Signing in to banks is a difficult ordeal, with good banks requiring 2-factor authentication, regularly-changed passwords, etc. Spend’s Ledger made it possible to see all my transactions easily in one place.

The Ledger is one of my favorite features of Spend, and the feeling I get from not having to log into my bank(s) to find a transaction is so satisfying.

I’ve got four accounts that I use regularly:

  • My joint checking account that I share with my wife
  • My travel miles credit card
  • My every-day spending credit card
  • My savings account

The problem came when I wanted to see a transaction from a long time ago or that I only remembered some of the information. If I knew when the transaction happened, I could scroll through the Ledger, or use a desktop computer and cmd / ctrl + f to search the page. If I didn’t remember the date, I was out of luck.

Now, we’ve made it even easier to find a transaction.

Search by Keyword

Start typing in the search field to search across the names of all of your transactions and you’ll only see the ones that match. For searching, we currently allow multiple words or parts of words and will match all of the terms in the transactions name.

Filter Transactions

Click the “Filters” button to filter transactions by:

  • Type (recurring, recovered, ignored)
  • Pending or settled
  • Amount (min, max, range)
  • Account

The videos you see here aren’t sped up at all. This is actually how fast searching and filtering is on Spend. Beats logging into your bank over and over again, right?

We plan to add even more transaction filters for categories, dates, and more. We hope you enjoy these updates.
